Product Description:
Challenging the 80-kilometer physical attenuation limit, the ZR4 series represents the pinnacle of optical engineering within the 40G encapsulation format. At such vast distances, relying solely on receiver sensitivity is futile. This module innovatively positions a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) at the front end of the receiver. When a dying light beam arrives after an 80km journey, the SOA applies a physical gain boost before handing the signal over to the APD avalanche diode for electro-optical decoding, forcefully tearing open a 40Gbps direct tunnel between two cities.
Key Features:
Extreme Dispersion Tolerance: The transmitting end uses extremely narrow-linewidth cooled lasers to maximize resistance against the chromatic dispersion broadening caused by 80km of silica glass.
Rigorous Thermal Design: Given the extra heat generated by high-power lasers and the SOA, the entire chassis utilizes deeply optimized metal thermal-conduction structures to guarantee industrial-grade stability.
Application Scenarios:
Backbone interconnect tunnels crossing administrative provinces; extreme-distance microwave or fiber base station backhaul in deserts, oceans, or areas where repeater amplification stations cannot be deployed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do you handle chromatic dispersion over 80km at 40G speeds?
A: We build these with high-quality EML (Electro-absorption Modulated Lasers). EMLs have a very narrow spectral width, which drastically reduces dispersion penalties over long distances compared to standard direct-modulated lasers.
Q: What is the minimum optical budget for the ZR4?
A: Our 40G ZR4 provides a typical optical link budget of 24dB. Actual distance will depend on the splice quality and age of your physical fiber plant.
Q: How is the 80km distance verified before shipping?
A: We don't just calculate the math. Every ZR4 unit is tested in our Wuhan facility using actual 80km fiber spools and bit-error-rate testers (BERT) before it is packed.
